Are you bored of running alone?
Fed up with running the same old routes and find it difficult to motivate yourself to get out and run?
Would you like to run but feel unsafe on your own?
If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then the St.Helens Striders could be just what you're looking for.

Where are we based ?
Our base is Central Fitness, Duke St., St.Helens, WA10 2JB
What we do ?
We run every Monday and a Wednesday, meeting at 7:00pm at our base (Central Fitness). We follow a preset training programme which is available to members each month. There is no pressure to attend every session, we all have busy lives, jobs, family commitments, etc. We are simply a group of people from, in and around St Helens that enjoy running. Our members cover a wide range of ages and abilities. The more experienced and faster members train in one group and the other members train together in another group. Whichever group members train in they will always be accompanied by other runners who are more than willing to advise and encourage them. Training is varied, covering everything from hill repetitions to long runs and fartlek. Our training should help to increase fitness, speed and stamina and vary in distance with some stops for 're-grouping'. Some of our members enter 10k, half or full marathons or simply run for fun. You are sure to get lots of advice, encouragement and company with your training. Above all as our homepage says, we are a friendly club that believe running should be enjoyed not endured.
What will it cost me ?
We always say come down and try out a few sessions first (free of charge). Should you decide you want to join, then you will be required to pay a membership fee (2011’s fee was £25 for the year). Joining the Striders means that you are given membership to the English Athletics Association which gives discounts on race entry fees, but also at specialist running shops such as Sweatshop.
What next ?
The next thing is to let us know you intend to try it out and we can take the necessary steps to make sure you come down on a suitable evening. Use our Contact Us page for a phone No or email address or use our message board to post a question and one of our members will try to answer you as soon as possible. We ask that you dont just 'turn up' as sometimes the session is not suitable for a new starter.
Keep on running !
